This 1-hour asynchronous course is designed for medical interpreters and translators who support patients undergoing treatment for breast and gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. Cancer care often involves complex and evolving medication regimens, and this session will guide participants through the terminology and communication challenges related to chemotherapy agents, hormone therapies, targeted treatments, and immunotherapies. Learners will have the chance to put concepts into practice through interpreting exercises built around real patient stories.

• Identify common and complex breast cancer types and their medications.
• Recognize common and complex GI cancer types and their medications.
• Learn key terminology used to discuss cancer care with patients.
• Practice interpreting skills tested on the CCHI E-to-E exam.

• Types of breast cancer: ductal carcinoma, lobular carcinoma, triple-negative, and inflammatory
• GI cancer types: colorectal, stomach, liver, esophageal, pancreatic
• Categories of cancer treatments: chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies
• Real-world interpreting skills practice in English based on oncology encounters
