In this 1-hour performance-based course, participants will examine how consecutive interpreting performance is evaluated in certification and workplace settings. The session reviews common error types, including omissions, additions, substitutions, grammar errors, pronunciation errors, changes in register, and technique-related breakdowns. Participants will learn to distinguish between errors affecting meaning and accuracy, as well as language delivery issues such as grammar and register, and technique breakdowns. This approach supports clearer self-assessment and more targeted skill development for practicing medical interpreters and certification candidates.

Consecutive interpreting makes up 75% of the CHI-oral performance exams. Many candidates do not pass as a result of preventable interpreting errors. In this course, you will learn how interpreting exams are scores, what type of errors to avoid, and will be given a blueprint for how to start that process.

• Practice identifying errors in consecutive interpretation and labeling them correctly through an 8-minute consecutive interpreting practice.
